Hospice: Myths and Facts
New in this area, the Green Valley Hospice Team provided a panel presentation: Dr. Andres Tak, Medical Director, Anu-Aaltonen-Bond, RN, Director of Patient Care Services, Nicole Edwards, MSW, and Michele Casales, Chaplain. Hospice is a philosophy of care that accepts dying as a natural part of life, seeking neither to speed up the dying process nor to avoid it. Hospice helps patients focus on pain management, comfort, and quality of life when they are no longer seeking curative treatment for a terminal illness in its end stages. Myths abound about hospice: that hospice is only for a few days, that it is expensive to the patient, that it is a place. There was a breakout session after the presentation for questions and answers. (Thursday, October 11 2012, 1:30-3:00 PM)
